Child Development Center Open House |
|
Posted by: klozano on Friday, February 08, 2008 - 12:16 PM |
 |
The C.D.C. will be having our annual Open House on Wednesday Feb. 20th, from 4:pm to 6:pm. The center will close at 4pm this day to allow us to host our visitors. You will be able to walk into each room and speak to the teachers. This is beneficial to those whose child will be transitioning to a new classroom and for those who want to take a little more time to really see what their child’s day is like.
In addition to talking to your child’s teacher and the teachers of other classrooms you will have the added benefit of speaking to community organizations and see what they have to offer. We will have several organizations such as the *Food Bank , *Texas Work Source, *Office of Victims Assistance, and *Little Read Wagon to name a few. Several of these organizations will be having mini classes and all will have lots of information to share.
Our open house will begin at 4:15 with an Opening prayer by Sr. Odilia, followed by time to visit the rooms and organizations. Refreshments will be served at 5:15 followed by door prizes. Those who visit all the rooms can enter to win one of many prizes including a *$25 gift card; *child’s sleeping mat, *BSA t-shirt, *CDC ’08 calendar, and more.
Please make plans to attend this wonderful event.

National Accreditation Awarded to BSA Child Development Center |
|
Posted by: klozano on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 - 11:53 AM |
 |
Congratulations are in order for all the staff, parents and children of the BSA Child Development Center! On July 12, 2007, Director Alice Alvarez received official notification that the Center has been accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs. This prestigious designation is reserved for programs of outstanding quality. After an extensive self study process and an on-site evaluation of all areas of the program, curriculum and facility, BSA was awarded the designation of National
Accreditation. BSA Child Development Center also received the seal of approval as a faith based early education program.
Many thanks to all who helped us achieve this long awaited goal. Administrators, classroom staff and families each played a special role in building a quality learning experience for young children. We are joyfully celebrating this great achievement and look forward to further developing in
excellence. Congratulations to all!!!

Teachers from the BSA Child Development Center have recently completed coursework for a nationally recognized credential in early childhood education, the Child Development Associate Credential. After 120 clock hours of classroom instruction, the CDA candidates have completed a professional portfolio and are in the process of final evaluation in their classroom skills. Congratulations go out to Gary Decker, Sandra De La Rosa, Janie Farias, Stephanie Flores, Crystal Gonzales, Adriana Gomez and Esther Nightingale who have completed coursework with Palo Alto College. Each will be ready to submit their final application for the credential in the coming weeks. Other staff have also completed CDA coursework through St. Philip College or other agencies. Mae Marquez, Larissa Fielding, Toni Rayos and Chrisann Espinosa are also in the final stage of the CDA credential. Catholic Schools Week Celebration |
|
Posted by: klozano on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 04:48 PM |
 |
Families at the Child Development Center are enjoying a week of special activities celebrating the unique learning environment at BSA. As part of the national observance of Catholic Schools Week, BSA families are invited to participate in special events ranging from spirit day to a family pancake breakfast. Although the center is open to all families of any faith, this week is a time when we recognize the Catholic foundation of the program. The center is a ministry of service sponsored by the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament. Since 1926, BSA's educational programs have served children and adults in their quest for quality education. We salute all the sisters and staff and wish them many more years in the service of the Lord and his children.

November Staff of the Month: Elma Decker |
|
Posted by: klozano on Monday, November 07, 2005 - 12:01 PM |
 |
submitted by Alice Alvarez
Ms. Elma Decker has been with Blessed Sacrament Academy C.D.C. since March of 2005.
Ms. Elma came to us after working for another child care center for 12 years and has a total of 17 years of experience. Ms. Elma received her CDA for infants and toddlers and currently is the lead teacher in our K2b classroom.
Ms. Elma is a beautiful person. Just by being around her you can feel what a great and sweet woman she is. Not only did Ms. Elma enter the mission of child care but so did her son Gary who just happens to also work for us in our after school program. Ms. Elma’s daughter is also in the child care profession at the JCC/Barshop Jewish Community Center of San Antonio where our preschool and theirs collaborate in the Cultural Exchange Program.
As you walk by the K2b room you will see a group of children who are happy, learning, and safe. Ms. Elma is blessed to have a wonderful aide, Ms. Lupe. Together these ladies keep a group of 2-3 year olds happy.
Thank you Ms. Elma for your patience, love, and devotion to all children, you are obviously a great role model to pass your dedication for children on to your own children. We here at BSA are blessed to have you and your family as part of the BSA family.

David Santana October Staff of the Month |
|
Posted by: klozano on Thursday, October 06, 2005 - 05:07 PM |
 |
submitted by Alice Alvarez
David Santana joined BSA in May of 2005 with the AARP group as a custodian. By July of this year the CDC decided our floors have never looked nicer and we chose to hire David as a full time custodian.
Our center looks great because of Mr. David’s hard work. He helps with fixing things around the center, cutting grass, and setting up for special events. David always has time to smile at the children and even pitches in during fire drills to help teachers move the children outside. David is a true professional who treats his fellow co-workers with respect. Teachers feel confident that if they need assistance they can call on David.
David is just an all around great guy known to everyone here as
“SUPER DAVE”. Please give SUPER DAVE a pat on the back for being BSA’s October 2005 staff of the month.
